I moved from Phoenix to Portland last weekend. Drove the UHaul through Sacramento... so close to Harbin. Sure wanted to take a detour, soak and get a massage. Would have if I had been alone.
The good news is, my new home is only a couple of hours from Breitenbush Hot Springs. Still, there's no place like Harbin and I haven't been in way too long.
Hope you're all having a wonderful summer!

OTOH, Breitenbush is on my 'to do' list. Hopefully it won't be too long before you're able to mosey up there and take the waters. Observations appreciated! -

Re: Greetings from Portland
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 9:05 AMhi michelle...
just read your post... portland huh? how's it going so far? are you closer or farther away from Harbin?
i like breitenbush, i spent a week and a half there last year, taking in a yoga intensive for 5 of those days...
b-bush is pretty quiet (which is why i joined a workshop)... not very social, it's very woodsy. you are really out in nature when you are sitting in one of their pools, which are very small by the way (there are 3; 6, 7 people max). the clientele can be different and the same as harbin as much as people in Portland are different from peeps from sfbay area... i didn't find people there very open to meet new people, there seemed to be a larger percentage of female couples (lesbians) than at harbin... (and well harbin now as a more gay men than any hot spring i know of) if you are in the pool with someone you are pretty close or you are in a totally different pool where at harbin you can be in the same pool and be very far away.
there isn't much to do at b-bush outside of taking a hike, eat a meal, sitting in a pool or sauna. food is included in the price and the food is very good.
advice on going... go during the summer non raining months. you pretty much need a reservation to get in (even tho' i talked myself in without one)... limited camping gets filled up easily unlike harbin where there is no limit.
hope you enjoy portland! -

Re: Greetings from Portland
Mon, November 2, 2009 - 11:42 AMThanks for the hello and all the great info, Markus. I actually spent the first 30 years of my life in Eugene and Portland and am familiar with Breitenbush. Went to Cougar Hot Springs a lot when I was younger too.
It's good to be back in Oregon. Autumn has been spectacular and I'm having a great time with family and friends. Harbin is a 9 1/2 hour drive which is much closer than when I lived in AZ. I'm planning a trip down in the spring.
