Camping at Harbin

I'm thinking of getting a small travel trailer to camp in. Are they permitted at Harbin or is only tent camping allowed. I did notice a small Scamp trailer on campus last time I was there, but that might have belonged to a permanent resident. Anybody know?

Guests, residents and community

I haven't posted in a while but I feel compelled to after a series of conversations I've taken part in at Harbin and comparing what was said IRL to what has been posted in this tribe.

There's been plenty of posts by a few guests about animosity felt from residents. I don't doubt this has been the case, but it brought up a couple questions. I wanted to know WHO these rude residents are (-and I know that two men out there consider me one of them seeing as how you don't like security, so I won't take it personally).

After being treated incredibly rude by a couple of regular guests, I realized that these guests act like they are residents and I even heard one of them go as far as to tell a new guest that he IS a resident (which was a lie, of course, unless he was going by a very loose definition of what a "resident" is). That got me to thinking that perhaps these same regular guests have done the same to others, reflecting poorly on our community (which brings me to my next thought)...

There is a little something I've repeated over and over to people around here:
The Harbin COMMUNITY is comprised of both the residents AND the guests.
How much of a Community member someone is
depends on how much they participate at Harbin.
(Its like sex: the amount you put in is the amount you get out of it...)
I know a couple of you don't like us residents.
I'm sorry you feel that way.
I fear that you may have had bad experiences
from some of the guests who pass themselves off as residents
(and some of them are FORMER residents).
That said, I would dare say that there are PLENTY of guests
who are MORE a part of the Community than some of the residents!
I know a number of guests who are AWESOME and who really do a lot
for Harbin and for everyone who comes here.
They get much love!
That said, I will also say that EVERYONE who comes to Harbin
are a part of the Community, its just that some are more so than others
and sometimes people go through phases of contributing more than other times.

btw... all that is just my little .02 worth....
seeking more information about becoming a Harbin resident

Hi,
I've been going to Harbin since about 1998, although I haven't been there for a long time now. I love it there! I'd like to find out more information about becoming a Harbin resident and if there are always openings available. I'm stuck in an apt. in Hayward, CA and I'm pretty isolated without friends or family here. I'm trying to find a job but it's a tough world out there and I'm almost 55 (in Dec.).
Thanks for any advice.

I moved from Phoenix to Portland last weekend. Drove the UHaul through Sacramento... so close to Harbin. Sure wanted to take a detour, soak and get a massage. Would have if I had been alone.

The good news is, my new home is only a couple of hours from Breitenbush Hot Springs. Still, there's no place like Harbin and I haven't been in way too long.

Hope you're all having a wonderful summer!

Medical bills play a role in 62% of bankruptcies, study says
By Lisa Girion, June 4, 2009 Los Angeles Times

Quotes from the LA Times Nespaper article:
The study found that medical bills, plus related problems
such as lost wages for the ill and their caregivers,
contributed to 62% of all bankruptcies filed in 2007.

Medical insurance isn't much help, either. About 78% of
bankruptcy filers burdened by healthcare expenses were
insured, according to the survey, to be published in the
August issue of the American Journal of Medicine.
..............................
.........

Please consider this information with the following moral:

Tacit Conspiracy Of Complicity - Simplified:

While walking to work each day, I had to cross a stream. I tossed a

rock in to step on and help myself cross each day, on the way to and from work.

Others saw this and did the same. We never discussed it or talked about it.

It was a tacit conspiracy of complicity.

Most of us never imagined that we would create a damn that would flood our

community and kill so many people.

But the few that did realize the impending disaster, set about preparing to

profit off of the coming tragedy, rather than attempt to prevent it. And what

is even worse, are the "measures" they took to keep the information

concealed so the disaster could not be avoided and they could

"make a killing", in profits.

End of quoted moral from a work in progress titled-
Toxic Revelations
..........................................................................

Leading medical providers like the Cleveland
Clinic and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore are
establishing special programs to give platinum
service to the well-heeled. Depending on the
program, the super-rich customers may receive
massages and sauna time along with their
physical, house calls, and step-to-the- front-
of-the-line service in testing facilities (158).

While Linda Peeno MD (featured in the movie
"Sicko") gave sworn testimony to the House of
Representatives on the subject of "Denial of
Health Care Services" to insured American's
(20a).

A Congressional Report states that of the
1,400 chemicals known to cause cancer,
less than 6% are tracked (145B).

The huge transnational companies that
produce toxic chemicals found in
pesticides, herbicides and industrial and
household products profit not only from
the sale of these products, but also from
the symptoms and chronic illnesses that
they can trigger (157).
________

157 :POISON FOR PROFIT
CHEM/PHARM HAS NO EQUAL - WHAT A
BUSINESS PLAN!
By Ashley Simmons Hotz May 15, 2002

This report has been censored from the
Internet and removed from the
Archives Wayback Machine. But a
number of advocates have been
re-posting the report and copies can be
found with a simple Google search on
the title and author:>
"POISON FOR PROFIT Ashley Simmons Hotz"

________ ........................

Even more disturbing is what is termed "the revolving door" from
these companies and their executives into many of the high ranking
administration offices of our government, in Washington DC. From
the National Institute of Health to the Food and Drug Administration
and beyond.

"The revolving door" is easily shown with an Internet www.google.com

search term, "revolving door washington DC drugs chemical companies".

In short, "Justice has been sold" (101) and millions of dollars put

into "fixing the sale" ( 49). The Los Angeles Times reported that,

"Drug Companies, HMO's Spend Big To Stop New Laws". They

donated hundreds of millions of dollars to political election

campaigns (49, 159 ).

To quote Senator Amy Klobuchar;

The debate on health care in Washington has been dominated by

the drug companies and the insurance companies for way too long.

When our health care policies are written for the insurance companies

and the drug companies instead of America's families, we get things

like Medicare Part D. Medicare Part D gave the prescription drug

companies something like $90 billion a year in Christmas presents

by banning the federal government from negotiating drug prices.

End of quote from Senator Amy Klobuchar

Drug companies are apparently buying out "grass root

organizations like NAMI (68). While they do the

"Poison for Profit" ( 157).

Use this Google search terms to find copies

"POISON FOR PROFIT Ashley Simmons Hotz"
.............................

To simplify the complexity of the
controversy, I will give this example. Bill
Moyers of the Public Broadcasting System
did a show named Trade Secrets and has
created a web page of the same name
(26). There is to much documentation
there to list, in regard to "industry"
covering up the damage to OUR HEALTH
from toxic chemicals, for over fifty years
(26).

Bill Moyers was tested for over 800 toxic
chemicals and over 80 chemicals (at
various levels of exposure) were found, in
him. That presents the potential for more
viable chemicals reaction variations than
the pick six lottery in one patient from the
perspective of Low Dose Cumulative
Effects of Toxic Chemical's ! But
regardless of this, many of the "tolerable
levels of exposure" to a (singular) toxic
chemical have been fraudulently produced
for decades (81).

Current events on this topic of "The Toxic Lotto" that
revolves around the "Toxic Soup" that all of us live in
are at my MySpace profile with links to the
California Biomonitoring Program
and the
"Cumulative Impacts".

Just as toxic chemicals can multiply in their toxicity
when mixed, so can infectious agents increase in their
pathogenic impact. And the the two (toxic chemicals
and infectious agents) usually work in a synergistic
manner.

It is suspected that
Camp Mandalay of the Bohemian Grove
might very well have "inside knowledge" that
other members of the Bohemian Grove are not
aware of.

Many camps in the Bohemian Grove contain very
prestigious visitors. You have camps like Cave Man,
Hideaway, Hill Billies, Hillside, Isle of Aves, Lost
Angels, Mandalay, Midway, Owl's Nest,
Sempervirens, Silverado Squatters, and Stowaway.
Mandalay seems to be the camp for international
relations and consists of many members officially or
otherwise connected to the intelligence agencies.
Mandalay is the only camp you cannot just walk into
and before you are allowed on the compound
someone will ask you who you have an appointment
with. If you're cleared for access, you are taken up the
hill with a Bechtel-designed electric pulley. Many
members of camps like Hill Billies or Stowaway
(Rockefellers and Morgans) have been to Mandalay at
one time or another.

It is believed that camp Mandalay was central to
the "Manhattan Project" (the nuclear bomb),
"Project Paper Clip" (that gave Nazi scientists
new identities and continued their research on
American's) and a host of other well document
experiments on hundreds of American cities.

I am all for telling the other members of the
Bohemian Grove what camp Mandalay has been
up to with the Non-Lethal Biological
Weapons known as Incapacitating Agents,
playing a part in Chronic Illnesses and cancers.
A video titled,
"Biological Weapons Experiments On The American People"
explains it rather well.

When it comes to the effects of toxic chemicals on our gonads
and or our sex drive, there appears to be a cover up and
a conspiracy. Unfortunately, it is much worse than that. After
careful investigation, it seems to me that the circumstance are
due more to incompetence and greed.

This membership list of the Bohemian Grove does list
some of the deceased and their causes of death. Such as
John Du Pont (now deceased) of whom was diagnosed as
"insane". He was heir to the Du Pont chemical empire.
Ralph Bailey was a member of Camp Mandalay and Vice-Chairman
of Du Pont Chemical Company. John Du Pont (heir to the Du Pont
fortune) was a member of the "Isle of Aves" Camp.
John Du Pont was not a member of the Mandalay Camp.

I'll get back to that angle, after I clarify a few points....... Maybe
you could ask Mary Moore and Peter Phillips what they think about this ?

The elite of our society (The Bohemian Grove
crowd) can get caught up and effected by this "Toxic Lotto", too.
Only they have the money (cash) or a different type of health
insurance, that enables them to get properly evaluated at
clinics like the
Environmental Health Center-Dallas

I'll clarify a key point. A peer reviewed medical
journal has shown that the majority of mental
illness is due to toxic chemical exposures
and is not as genetic as they had thought.
Nazi T4 Genocide Model Openly Touted By Obama Administration Officials

June 3, 2009 (LPAC)—When Adolf Hitler set up his T4 program, dedicated to eliminating "useless eaters" from Germany's hospitals and nursing homes, he turned to a "non-political" body of medical experts to make the decisions as to who should live, and who should die. It is becoming increasingly obvious that this same model is being adopted by the Obama Administration, in its zeal to ram through its genocidal health care "reform."

Hi everyone:

I'm planning a trip to Harbin sometime in March. I'm mulling over staying in the dorms. Does anyone have any positive (or negative) experience with this? I've never been one for being THAT communal, and it would be a bit of a pain to get bed linens, since I live on the other side of the country. Still, the savings might allow me to stay a little longer than I had hoped.

Suggestions?

Yardsharing and Seed Angels - We need you!

We have a couple projects going that don't need funding - just participants!

The first is hyperlocavore.com. Hyperlocavore is a yardsharing community - built to support people in the practice of creating 'yardsharing' arrangements to grow food together.

Many people want to grow food but they lack one or two of these four things:
-time
-space
-skills
- physical strength

Forming a yardsharing group with your friends, neighbors, family or with your religious communities is easy - and free! You can set up a 'seeking yardshare' group for your area (like Chicago, South Side) or a private group for your own yardshare "Grandma's Backyard Garden"

CSAs are filling up fast. Community gardens have waiting lists. Food is getting more and more expensive.
Find some people and start growing together!

The other project we've started is The Great Let's Get Growing Seed Share.
We are asking experienced gardeners to become 'seed angels,' to adopt a newbie gardener and send them some garden seeds! I have sent four newbie gardeners enough seed that each of them will have huge beautiful edible gardens this summer. It's easy - it cost me less than 4 dollars to get four gardens going!

If you are an experienced gardener we need you to become a seed angel!
If you are a newbie food grower - sign up!

It's FREE
http://hyperlocavore.wordpress.com/2009/03/05/the-great-lets-get-growing-seed-share/

If you think these are good ideas please help us get the word out to your communities! Blog it, tweet it, share it!

Hello to everyone, I seek your advise. I have not visited Harbin in over a year, but I had chosen this upcoming weekend over a month ago, specifically Saturday to Sunday. The weather report says the cold snap is to continue through the weekend, with temps Saturday for Middletown reaching the the mid forties and dipping into the twenties at night. I'm sure the Warm pools themselves will be wonderful on a cold night, and I'm thinking of staying in the dorms. What do you all think, is it worth bearing ( bare-ing) possible sub-freezing tempatures for a Solstice soak, or should I hold out for slightly warmer weather.

I'm blessed to be leaving on Christmas morning for 16 days in Costa Rica. A much needed solo vacation at my friend Joy's retreat center on the Caribbean coast near Puerto Viejo. If any of you ever feel inspired, come on down! Check out Jo Jo's Jungle Retreat at: http://www.aglobalcreek.com/

Bountiful blessings to you all for a wonderful New Year.

Harbin Water Now Chlorinated??

I haven't been to Harbin in 3 months or so, but just heard a claim that the water in the warm pool is now being chlorinated by order of the state of CA. Is this so? Does anyone have any solid info on this? Tell me its not so if you can, but tell me the truth regardless!

Hey folks, Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I have been a little burned out lately.
The Events job turned out to have it's share of "ick" factor and some stuff in my personal life
has been bugging me. The overall effect is "ick". I'm also a bit sad that my friends, Halima, Gabor and their little son, Adam, are leaving Harbin.

The cool thing is that my job will be changing significantly in October, but the Events dept. will be taking a break for the month of November (until Thanksgiving).

I want to concentrate on my writing! Just crawl into my camp and get away from everyone... for a little while....

I was finally able to get to Harbin. It was magic, and I have never felt as much energy in one place. Life drawing in the library, and the dance. Shiatsu & Watsu. The pools were wonderful after 8 days of riding, which in Cali means climbing hills and sore legs for us flatlanders.

I must return, and for longer.

I'm excited! We had a great event last year where the Oakland Poetry Slam team came to perform and it was very well received. So much so we are going to host a REAL qualifying poetry slam event at Harbin! I'll be joined by Ekhabumi from Berkeley and Go from Sacramento as well as others. It will be a part of a weekend where we are also hosting our seasonal writers wordshop retreat. It will be interesting to see how the slam poets navigate the Harbin terrain!

I was on the Celebrations of Love web site yesterday and saw a link that said, "In Memory of Rainbowheart". My heart sank. It was a YouTube video of him but there was no explanation of what happened. I've been doing Google searches and can't find anything.

I saw him at Harbin a couple of summers ago and he was on his way to live in Thailand. We spent a wonderful hour or so talking... little did I know it would be for the last time.

Can someone please tell me what happened to Rainbowheart?

Thanks,
Michelle

So, are there more or fewer folks at Harbin the weekend that Burning Man is on? I've been wanting to get away to Harbin for some time now but keep having duties that keep me tied down. I might be able to get away on Labor Day weekend, but I'm not sure if it'll be crazy busy. I like the more peaceful times at Harbin...

Tom C. has been holding space for strategy games. He is something of a Pente virtuoso and a very good teacher
but he also is great at chess and dominoes. Neil did a tutorial on Texas Hold 'em last week and Michelle has been spanking all comers at Chess. Can ANYONE beat her???

I just got back from vacation to find the Harbin quarterly newsletter in the pile. Does anyone else think that the woman on the front cover has had a bikini photoshopped on? It looks highly suspicious...

I know this sounds dorky coming from a resident
but I wanted to show a little love for some of my favorites.

RESIDENT (the list is longer than this, but I'll get in my top 7)
1) Omi (who gives the sweet fairy blessings)
2) Sunheart
3) Eric
4) Neil Murphy (oldtimer and owner of the Blue Room)
5) David and Sanna (yes, they count as one entity)
6) Tom (I bet very few of you know our nocturnal cleanup-crew-in-one)
7) Heather (newest community member, but giving more than most)

GUESTS
1) Syntha (duh!)
2) David from Chico (who always loves to help out!)
3) Amanda (but she hasn't been around lately!)
4) Sandra Wade (Poet Laureate)
5) -and now Erin (whom I've just met this weekend. The thrill of the new!)
6) J. P. Harpignies (founder of the Bioneers Conference and author)
7) Sister Aqeelah (our Imam for Sufi Studies, and yes, she's a woman!)

I should add a couple people who are local hires:
-Laura, who makes THE best Huevos Rancheros!
-Dana, who is our weekend morning barista
and, last but hardly least
-MICHELLE! the wacky, whimsical artist who works WAY too much!

so... who are YOUR favorites?

Right now, it looks like my wife and I are headed from Berkeley to Harbin the weekend after next, and if you're in the neighborhood and would like to share in the cost of petrol, send me a message. We may possibly have a full car if a couple of friends decide to come with us, but I thought I'd just put this out into the Universe anyway.

Washing Plastic and Toxic Chemical Reactions: Spiritual Progress and Toxic Corruption of Sexual Desires

   Your gonads are a part of what modern medicine
calls the "Endocrine System".

It is advised that you read through this posting
before checking the verifiable reference material.

New Concerns About Phthalates or
Your Gonads On Endocrine Disruptors.
With photo's of normal and toxic testes, posted
http://www.angelfire.com/nm/redcollarcrime/phthci.html - 36k

Washing and disinfecting plastic items can cause a
very toxic chemical reaction. In reference:

Article titled;
Protecting Yourself From Unsafe Plastics,
By Sharon Levy
National Wildlife Magazine, February / March issue, Vol.42, No.2
http://www.nwf.org/nationalwildlife/article.cfm?articleId=890&issueId=66

There is a peer reviewed medical
journal that was published, indicating
that the majority of mental illnesses are
caused by toxic chemical exposures. My
perspective is that such chemical
exposures can also hinder Spiritual
development as well as interfere with
and "corrupt" sexual desires.

In reference:

Title of article:
Environmental Connections: A Deeper Look into Mental Illness
Published by:
Volume 115, Number 8, August 2007
http://www.ehponline.org/members/2007/115-8/focus.html

Their "general conclusion" (in the above article) is that
mental illness is not "so genetic" and most likely due
to toxic chemical exposures.....

FYI:
Here is an excerpt from the "introduction" of
a UCSF research article;

Over the past decade, it has become clear that the brain
synthesizes steroid hormones by using some of the same
steroidogenic enzymes found in adrenals and gonads
(reviewed in refs. 1 and 2). These compounds were given
the name neurosteroids (3), and some of their functions
have been elucidated (4).

The above excerpt is from:

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors directly alter
activity of neurosteroidogenic enzymes

   I tried to search about it online, but there seems to be very little information, even on the main website. I am considering living in intentional community, and already visited some, but most of them in California are very small. My son's daddy wants me and my son to stay in California, so he can visit him easier. Harbin Hot springs is a big community and has a lot of kids, which I like too. Can you tell me what it is like to live in Harbin?

Now that gas prices are climbing and not looking like they are coming down any time soon, we should look at some alternative means of getting here. Now, I know we can go on complaining about the lack of busses and all that, but let's talk about what is real and what is possible in the present. What are some ways of either saving on gas or getting here othewise?

I'm humming along here booking the music and presenters at Harbin and I'm doing ok but I'm looking for a little help. I've asked before but wasn't specific about what I'm looking for. That being the case, I'm gonna get specific now. I would like to find...

-Some Rootsy Hip Hop, along the lines of Spearhead (backpacker kinda groove, as opposed to hardcore gangsta)

-Sweet Celtic

-World music (Asian, African, West Indies, Native American, etc)

-Real Reggae

-Spacey, Trippy stuff (not dance music. We have that covered)

-Beautiful classical.

Let's start with those...
Anyone know anyone?

it made it really difficult to be naughty while floating my lover. :)

can anyone shed some [more] light on this?

Italy to Sydney . . . hope there is enough water to drink. . . Harbin was windy clear and just right temperature on Monday I believe the advantageous gas prices are finally having a good impact the pool had room to move and we got the favorite campsite for four---if we keep up our rainfall, or lack there of, we can catch the aussie drought in in a few years flat. . . I am hoping gas near 6 by the end of summer and the monsoons return to the Blue Mountains. . .

hi!! i need a ride to harbin today or saturday.

is anyone driving up to harbin from san francisco today after 3pm today? i'm trying to make it to an 8pm shamanic workshop--think that means we'd have to leave around 4 or 5, right?

if it doesn't work out today, i'd go tomorrow instead...

i'd pay for half the gas, make conversation, & not take up much room - it's just me and one squishy bag that can fit in anywhere!

a ride back on sunday would be great too, but that's not essential right now.

i'm in noe valley, close to the highway.

gratitude...

I noticed last weekend but forgot to post. The conference center has been renamed - there's a plaque & everything - to the Stan Dale conference center.

For anyone who doesn't know, Stan was the founder of HAI who died last summer. It is rumored that HAI paid for it's construction. so it seems like a good dedication to me.

URGENT! PLEASE HELP TIBET! SIGN THIS PETITION!

URGENT! PLEASE HELP TIBET! SIGN THIS PETITION!
PLEASE REPOST!

> Dear friends,
>
> After decades of repression under Chinese rule,
> the Tibetan people’s frustrations have burst
> onto the streets in protests and riots. With the
> spotlight of the upcoming Olympic Games now on
> China, Tibetans are crying out to the world for
> change.
>
> The Chinese government has said that the
> protesters who have not yet surrendered "
> will be punished". Its leaders are right
> now considering a crucial choice between
> escalating brutality or dialogue that could
> determine the future of Tibet, and China.
>
> We can affect this historic choice--China does
> care about its international reputation. China’s
> President Hu Jintao needs to hear that the ’Made
> in China’ brand and the upcoming Olympics in
> Beijing can succeed only if he makes the right
> choice. But it will take an avalanche of global
> people power to get his attention--and we need
> it in the next 48 hours.
>
> The Tibetan Nobel peace prize winner and
> spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama has called for
> restraint and dialogue: he needs the world’s
> people to support him. Click below now to sign
> the petition--and tell absolutely everyone you
> can right away--our goal is 1 million voices
> united for Tibet:
>
::: SIGN THE PETITION! :::
http://www.avaaz.org/en/tibet_end_the_violence/6.php
>
> China’s economy is totally dependent on "
> Made in China" exports that we all buy, and
> the government is keen to make the Olympics in
> Beijing this summer a celebration of a new
> China, respected as a leading world power. China
> is also a very diverse country with a brutal
> past and has reason to be concerned about its
> stability -- some of Tibet’s rioters killed
> innocent people. But President Hu must recognize
> that the greatest danger to Chinese stability
> and development comes from hardliners who
> advocate escalating repression, not from
> Tibetans who seek dialogue and reform.
>
> We will deliver our petition directly to Chinese
> officials in London, New York, and Beijing, but
> it must be a massive number before we deliver
> the petition. Please forward this email to your
> address book with a note explaining to your
> friends why this is important, or use our tell-a-
> friend tool to email your address book--it will
> come up after you sign the petition.
>
> The Tibetan people have suffered quietly for
> decades. It is finally their moment to speak--we
> must help them be heard.
>
> With hope and respect,
>
> Ricken, Iain, Graziela, Paul, Galit, Pascal,
> Milena, Ben and the whole Avaaz team
>
> PS - It has been suggested that the Chinese
> government may block the Avaaz website as a
> result of this email, and thousands of Avaaz
> members in China will no longer be able to
> participate in our community. A poll of Avaaz
> members over the weekend showed that over 80% of
> us believed it was still important to act on
> Tibet despite this terrible potential loss to
> our community, if we thought we could make a
> difference. If we are blocked, Avaaz will help
> maintain the campaign for internet freedom for
> all Chinese people, so that our members in China
> can one day rejoin our community.

Hi! I'm going to Harbin for a Waterdance class on May 4th (ideally in the morning) and am hoping for a ride from SF. Anyone going up? Gas $! Also, I'll eventually need a ride back sometime around the 14-15th, but the first part is all I'm thinking about now. Please email jena@dancinglotus.org directly, as I don't always check in to Tribe. Thanks!!

ride needed Friday, April 25

My wife and I are trying to rendezvous at Harbin this Friday. April 25th. The situation we're in leaves her in Berkeley, without a car, and me at Harbin with the car. Rather than adding 250 miles to my vehicle, making a donation to exon and wilting in a car for 4 extra hours of my life, I'd like to find a ride for her. She's able to meet any time after 5:30 this Friday and has access to BART. This is not without reward as I believe in taking care my community. Besides half the gas, I would like to trade a 1 hour massage (or a 90 minute without having to pay half the gas) for the safe passage of my greatest treasure. We can schedule your massage any time after the weekend of April 25th. I have a website where you can see the times I'm available in Berkeley and I'm also available at Harbin, where I'm on the massage staff, depending on room availability. The link to my website is http://jaygunther.googlepages.com. Please don't use tribe to contact me as I won't be able to check this account for a couple of weeks due to being at Harbin. My email and phone number are on the website. I hope to see you soon and blessings, Jay

p.s. Jess thanks you too

Greetings,
I'm planning a visit to Harbin on Sunday, April 27th flying in to Oakland Airport and driving from there. I plan to be back late Sunday night, or early Monday morning back to the East Bay. Yeah - short trip but work work...

I'm looking for fun people to share a ride with me in my rental car - you can be a smoker..just don't smoke in my car...and other than that I'm laid back and easy going. Oh yes, if you have strong political views. especially Republican, please refrain from discussing them in the car..Gas sharing would be nice.

Peace,

So you want to present @ Harbin...?

Caught a couple of inquiries (both joking and serious) about what it takes to present at Harbin.
Well, here's a few inroads...

MUSICIANS
Yep, we pretty much like New Age music in our Temple.
I am partial to World Music myself
(actually, I am a HipHop head and love TOOL and other indie Rock
but you won't see me booking any of that here!)
Folk is considerable
and Jazz and Classical are good
but please understand
that we have a good number of musicians
who are already tried and true
so getting a booking is contingent upon our available schedule
and our budget.
Know, also, I have a VERY critical pair of officemates looking over my shoulder
and they are a bit more picky than I am
but being my superiors here at Harbin
they have a big influence on my selections.

WRITERS
If you write poetry, drama, fiction or non-fiction
you've got a spot here to read or promote your book.
The best bet would be for ELYSEUM
which typically has an event on the last Friday of the month
(but not always, and not limited to then).
www.heroesandpoets.org

ACTIVISTS
-Most welcome!
We have a chapter of the Abundance League here at Harbin
so if you are an activist, philanthropist, foundation, organizer, community leader
or are working on a project that will better the world
we have a spot for passionate presentations
every 4th Wednesday of the month.

FILMMAKERS
We have been talking about bringing in more filmmakers
to do screenings here at Harbin.
We have featured screenings here before and would love to present more.

SATSANG/LECTURES
If you are a teacher of a verified lineage you would be most welcome.
We also feature lectures and presentations on everything from ecology
to spirituality to global consciousness to science.

Our resources are limited
but we do provide a couple of perks
and accommondations.
If you have anyone in mind
go ahead and let them know.
get back to me here
and I'll let you know what your next steps are.

Hi, newbie here, coming from Chicago to SF but taking a day to see Harbin finally and do yoga, Watsu, dance, soak and sun... anyone going to be there too? Would be nice to chat with people ahead of time. I know that a stranger is "only someone you have not met yet," but even nicer to meet people that you have communicated with a bit already? I'm Bruce at davka20@yahoo.com (or you can chat via this thread, but not necessary.)

my ass...

my daughter and i Live in marin county and i direct a state licensed child care called Daydream.
i have many talents and gifts that i share within community.
i am a single mother and have been for twelve years without support.
i have been paying 2200 a month in rent plus bills yet when the storm came we had no heat or a way to cook for days.
i feel very tired of consuming so much to end up broke so i put in my 30 day notice on this home on january 1 meaning my daughter and i need to find a more efficient way to Live happily and in service by the 1st of february.
as well, i have been actively healing from recently realized child sexual abuse so i feel more vulnerable and more tired than ever.

i sent an email out to many friends for suggestions and 3 of them wrote back asking if i had considered harbin as a place to reside and work and heal.
i have never been to harbin hotsprings but felt it incredible that the Wind spoke to me thrice about it as an option so i heeded and called them up.

the "seraphim type", higher than thou, treatment that i received from the people in position there in the last couple of weeks has been startling and dramatic.
my genuine curiosity and Hope was met by hypocritical hierarchy.
they discriminated against me before i even got there for having a daughter and for needing healing.

i have come to Be greatly disturbed by their false projections of "Heart consciousness".

http://www.harbin.org/hccnacob.htm

i asked to come visit the land and shake a couple of hands for a few hours in the name of whether or not we would find that we did, indeed, want to apply for residency there.
nope, not permitted to do so without paying full price for both me and my 11 year old daughter.
just to walk onto the land!?
nope.
that is insane and unjust!
i told them that i did not have the money to eat much right now and that paying for gas was a stretch but they did not care.
i did not want to soak or stay overnight.
just a tour, please, on the sacred green damp Earth (that they do not and have not ever truly owned) and an interview.
i was told "we are not a charitable organization" despite their NONprofit, "Heart consciousness", status.
they have no scholarships for people in my position who could really use a dose of minerals and spring water but are funded to reach out and see the Oneness in All Beings. THEY ARE A CHURCH!!! what a selfish crock...

it seems to me, very clearly as i drew the owl card in reference to this, that the wind blew the name of harbin to me so that i could blaze through their DECEPTIVE facade.
now, i am called to write about it and spread the word because of how discouraging and appalling it was for me.
i called them in a time of much Hope and vulnerability and they discouraged me over and over again.
they invalidated my need and disregarded my plight.
"we don't have any therapists here", "it is difficult to get accepted with a child", "we have a VERY selective process", etc.
not once did any of them say, "welcome to you and your daughter. come. see what we are about and let's go from there."
they said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of the sort.

i am glad to hear that they are are "tight" financially. it may have something to do with their attitudes and Self righteous behaviors toward others whom they perceive as lesser than them.

it hurt feeling their discrimination and blatant disregard when i called with so much innocent excitement (my daughter and i both).

this posting is meant to challenge their structure with a fierce example of how they truly are, underneath it all, and when it comes down to it.

i see clearly and i will not be supporting that "community" on any level.
in fact, i will be spreading the word about my icky experience from here forth.

i realize how much passivity exists in most of the people who go there especially if they do not concern themselves with such things as poverty or struggle. i realize that these words will not stop the "regulars" from going for their monthly soak. i see how many people are so willing to just turn their heads and pretend like they do not even see anything unjust in this area if it does not serve them in the long run.
so Be it.
it matters not to the Universal scheme of things.
what goes around comes around.
period.

Peace.
Sacred Waters

Ahhh, the pools at Harbin as they were intended to be and as some (not enough) people continue to regard them today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The hot springs have been active at Harbin for over a million years and its waters are composed primarily of sulfur, iron and arsenic with sodium, potassium, magnesium, carbonates and other elements evident..
The Coast and Lake Miwok tribes used the present Harbin site 'as a seasonal camp and sacred ground, with the hot springs both a place of healing and a path to the spiritual realms'. During the Miwok settlement of the area, Harbin was called eetawyomi, or 'the hot place.'
By the time Spanish explorers reached the land of the Lake Miwok, pools had been dug into the ground at Harbin where the Miwok would bathe in the hot spring water. The springs were 'owned' by the Lake Miwok but were accessible to all tribes:
'Men and women who were sick were brought to the springs for its curative powers; Pomos, Wappos and Wintuns camped there routinely; and any tribes traveling through from the coast to the inland valleys were also welcome.'
The hot springs were also regarded as an entryway into the underworld. Shamans would enter a trance state and then their spirits would travel from the physical realm to the spiritual where they would talk with the spirits to learn. The shaman would then return to the physical world to heal with the newly learned knowledge.
After the Mexican and then American settlement of California, the hot springs became a popular resort and remains so today.
Should I hit the RESET button on this tribe?
I'm all for freedom of expression and all, but my personal mailbox is filling up with Hot Springers imploring me to do something about the acrimonious tone that some may say perpetually infects the discussions and is in no way representative of the typical (or even atypical) Harbin experience. As a toxic body would do well to undergo a cleansing/purification, so may a toxic tribe.  But has this tribe become toxic?  That's the question I'm struggling with.
I do have half a mind to remove this tribe and start it right back up to see if a fresh start will do us all some good.  In the event of such a drastic move, I would give y'all plenty of warning so you could copy-and-paste your favorite threads and the urls of your favorite members before the rebirth.
I just don't want this tribe to devolve into the Harbin Jerry Springers, as that's the furthest from my original (and eternal) intention.  That said, I do realize that just because a creation doesn't conform to my intention doesn't inherently make it less worthy.  I realize there can be peace without harmony, and there can be harmony without peace, but it's hard for me to to justify the existence of a tribe with neither peace nor harmony, and that seems to be the recurrent undercurrent.
I think I'll be as democratic as I can about this, so please chime in, speak up, throw down, cry out and/or sound off if you feel strongly one way or another, as well as if you have suggestions for maintaining a vibe that is neither oppressive nor repressive.
Peace,
Mark
massage therapist recommendation at harbin
My wife and I are going to Harbin in a few weeks.  We would like a recommendation for a massage therapist(s) there who do light, sensual (not sexual) type massage.  Neither of us like really deep tissue work or firm pressure.  We want a great," feel good" type massage, as opposed to a "get some work done" type of massage.  Thanks!
Events @ Harbin
OK... some of you don't know this yet
but I'm the new Events Coordinator at Harbin
and I'm wanting to hear some feedback
from our guests in particular about our events.
The first thing I want to say '
is that the gentleman who I am replacing,
Mr. Ray Tusken, is fucking awesome.
I didn't feel like I could step into his shoes,
I mean, Ray's a legend in the world of production!
(if you don't believe me,
just google his name!)
but it was Ray himself
who recommended me
for this job
and it's been Ray who's been training me
like a Jedi Master.
One thing Ray told me
was that I won't be doing what he did.
That I'm going to do it MY way
and that I should go in the direction
of my own strengths and qualities.
Well, one of these qualities
is that I rely some on feedback.
So, here I am
asking you all a couple questions.
If you would be so kind,
please let me know,
-What have been your favorite events at Harbin?
-What would you like to see more of?
-Do you have any ideas of someone or something new we can try out?
-How important are the events to your overall Harbin experience?
-Did anything here strike you as particularly "un-Harbin"?
So, if you've been observant anywhere on Tribe -including here- why do you suppose that the threads in which conflict arises elicit such great participation of both a postive and negative nature, and those threads that strive to be as supportive and PC, and sweet like honey as they can, seem to putter out almost upon arrival?
It's a dominant pattern that repeats itself over and over like the needle stuck at the end of LP...that clicking rasping noise...
I have my own thoughts. I'd like to hear others.
Camp in Tuva
Dear Friends
Thank you for your interest to our music.
Last summer we held a throat singing camp in Tuva.
We had 14 students from around the world - 8 of them were from the US, 2 from Australia
2 from Denmark, 1 from France, 1 from England.
After arriving in Tuva, the students spent 1 week in Kyzyl, the capital city.
They were able to see many tourist attractions, see a Tuvan shaman,
and attend the Naadym - National Harvest Celebration.
The students then went on to spend 1 week in the deep taiga, with members of the Tuvan throat singing group Chirgilchin,
learning various styles of throat singing, traditional Tuvan instruments, as well as the Tuvan language.
This summer, we are trying to get 2 groups to go to Tuva again, in either June or July.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Please check our photos made by Russell Roesner - our student.
Thank you
New Changes At Harbin!!!
In addition to now allowing cell phone use in the warm pool, the community at Harbin is very proud to announce our very own Burger King Annex adjacent to the organic restaurant! Now guests and residents no longer have to feel severed from their favorite fast food of choice! Now you really can Have It Your Way at Harbin! For a limited time, you can get a Whopper with Fries and a Coke for only $3.99! Yes, $3.99!
The Burger King Annex joins the Subway Sandwich Pavilion and the Starbucks Starlounge in the newest attempt by Harbin to update our offerings and allow the hungry guest a new alternative to the organic, home-grown fare of old! We realized the comfort and satisfaction of our guests outweighed our desire for food free from cancer-causing toxins and dangerous trans-fats! We realized that our notions of "evil corporations" and their enslavement of the population was antiquated and quaint! Long story short, we just had to change with the times!
Now you can enjoy Watsu with fries! Supersized!
Sex, Sexuality and initmacy...,Busts-a-move!
Once again I feel the need for some illumination, some clarity on the idea behind the "no sexual contact" in the Harbin Warm pool.
I was very happy to spend some time post Burning Man at Harbin ( much needed steam room for my dried-out sinuses).
Although I didnt see the frolic and revelry of previous years post burn, it was still time well spent and I continue to recommend Harbin to friends...
Although the mood in the warm pool hasnt changed much, over the years, I am still baffled as to what constitutes sexual contact- surely not all those couples embracing & cuddling, emitting contented sighs...
And unless "security" is going to install underwater, infrared cameras, I dont see any way to discern what may be "sexual contact".
Perhaps the sign need be changed to "no embracing..."
Dont they know people are trying to mediate around here!!!
None the less, as I was soaking in the warm pool mid afternoon, Security Omer comes and "busts-a-move" on some unsuspecting middle aged, afternoon cuddlers. I was 2 feet away and saw nothing out of the ordinary only the disruption in the atmosphere created by Omer.
The couple loudly denied anything.
Does embarrassing and annoying the guests serve any purpose?
Perhaps Omer felt the need to do "something' rather than feel useless in his function...
L
Phone Tower
I'm sorry I don't have the pertinent details here
but I did want to get this out to you all.
There is a telecom company that is proposing
to put up an unsightly and invasive cell phone tower
just outside Harbin's property line.
We totally don't want that thing here!
We also question WHY they have chosen that particular location.
The suspicion is that they are trying
to be in range for our guests.
This would destroy the atmosphere
of peace and serenity at Harbin.
Harbin is a retreat.
It is intended to be a place
where people can relax, unwind
connect with nature and other people
IN REAL LIFE
and take time out from business
and the hectic life.
We want to UNLEASH
our guests from the electronic leashes
they are shackled to otherwise.
This is not only my opinion
I had my first watsu treatment last week up @ the domes under the teepee . What an experience!  I felt like i was in a trance during most of the session.  I could feel lots of energy and colors were swirling around in the warm water.  It reminded me of the time i swam with the dolphins in Key Largo, Fl. I cant wait to have another round of watsu and I think my massage days on land are over.  Craig
Thanksgiving Weekend @ Harbin
Hi All,
My wife Glimmer and I are signed up for a HAI Level 5 workshop Thanksgiving weekend at Harbin, and we have a couple requests.  Our 100% is to:
1)       bring our 5 & 6 year old kids up Tuesday in our RV to enjoy Harbin as a family since they love it there,
2)       share a Thanksgiving feast with other Harbin families and maybe HAI folk, and
3)       find someone qualified that feels like family by Friday afternoon to spend the weekend with the kids safely exploring Harbin’s wonders. Then we’ll pick them up Monday morning (Sunday night would be our 98%, which still qualifies as awesome).
Are there any angels out there that want to participate in any of this experience with us, who know where a community turkeyfest might be found, or who can connect us with trustworthy childcare? We have a call into Regina since her kids watched ours during the dance fest last Summer, but we want to reach out further.  We expect to pay for the childcare, contribute to pot luck gatherings, share hugs, and otherwise show up.
In fact we can hardly wait to show up!!! The community at Harbin always feels like spiritual home...
Love,
Sunshine
I really like being able to talk to people in the sauna rooms.  I can stay in much longer if I am talking to people and the saunas get so crowded that sometimes it is awkward to not be talking to the people in there.  The pools are for meditating, but the saunas are for community interaction?  What does everyone else think?
I'm planning a visit to Harbin in the near future and have heard about no cell phone rule...Of course, I'd be going to get away from it all - however, would like to make a call or two in the evenings and such..
Is that taboo...or some places on the campus where cell phones are in range/not frowned upon...
I have to admit that when it was first being built I was frowning at all the wood involved in its construction...so much for sustainability! (what do I know? Maybe it was all recycled wood?) I also had a problem with it being built smack-dab in the middle of the lower garden. But now I'm simply blown away by this marvel of rustic design! What a fantastic new addition to the Harbin infastructure! What goes on there? Is it as functional as it is fabulous?
i recently visited harbin and that exciting feel of exiting the bus at middletown and making the long walk up the hill to wellsville surged through me like an herbal tonic
what a sense of being free !
pitching my tent high up in the hills and waking in the morning
to a bountiful view of gods own country.what an incredible sense
of life of living and of being alive and a perfect antidote and balm
for the city bred
dawn brings the sounds of birds and foraging deer and the gentle tune of trees shaking their leafy crowns and a sight of the heavens changing from deep stary indigo to bright sunny sky blue. what a sensation and what a realization of the natural world !
walking the trails clad only in a sarong with a hot sun beaming its healing rays and aromatic fragrances from each and every bark flower and leaf infusing nose lung and body i feel as it must have felt playing in the field of a lord of a god and of nature
in such a scenario of divinity one is overcome to shout and sing out a song of life among the natural things
" my eyes have seen the glory and the power of the lord.... "
the beautiful glory and the healing power as is felt in the secure bosom of harbin
glory glory halleujah !
Is it a different type of crowd than on a normal three day weekend during the spring/summer/fall?
Roid-a-cops and police brutality on a bad judgment call
By the Toxic Reverend
http://myspace.com/toxicreverend
that has been asking,"Who's a  criminal" ?
http://people.tribe.net/toxicreverend
We as tax payers put out a lot of cash to train a policeman.
They join the force, wanting to do good,help people and try to
make a difference in a very screwed up world.
Some times, I have to wonder what changes ?  How do some
of them become "bad apples" and give their entire profession a
bad name ?
For a few years, I have been doing research on the effects of
the "low dose cumulative effects of toxic chemicals" with violence
and abusive behavior.
Law enforcement is not excempt from such toxic chemical
exposures. But they do maintain a harder "front" than most
classes of society, with the "I am fine" presentation. Their
ego's are just that way, or they probably would not be in that
profession.   Think about it.  They risk their lives on a daily basis
to "uphold the law".  They are heroes.  And as such, they are
not to prone to saying, they have a problem, of any kind.
While I was researching this issue, I became acquainted
with Mesha. .  Her son had been shot 48 times by 9 San Francisco
policeman.  She started The IDRISS STELLEY FOUNDATION
with the money from the wrongful death suit of her sons murder.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeo9ewi/idrissstelleyfoundation/
Mesha was very kind and patient the times that I have called.
But the other day, she got me.  She admitted that yes, the toxic
chemicals could also impact a policeman's decision to use
deadly force.  But then she asked what I thought might happen
when a "Toxic Victim" (as I call "mentally ill") that is acting out,
meets up with a policeman on steroids ?
Mesha agreed that everything that I was on about can apply
to such a situation as an unjustified police shooting.  But she
also thought that steroid abuse by law enforcement is inducing
some "bad judgment calls", more than anything else.  And that
these factors are being protected by the " Blue Wall of Silence".
So being an open minded hippy, after talking to Mesha,  I did
a couple of Google searches on the subject.
The results astounded me.  The Google search terms were
"police steroid abuse" and "police steroid abuse testing".
I thought I would find masses of articles about the police busting
people for it.  But nooooo, I find massive articles about police
forces around the country being busted.
Si I tried posting "Roid-a-cops and police brutality" at
myspace.  It would not post.  So I sent it to a number of
friends at myspace.  They could not get it to post.  Though
Ken said a couple of days later that he was able to post it.
Seems there is a tracking program at myspace for censorship.
This report has finally posted at Myspace bulletin's and my blog.
After some serious complaining is rather public ways, across the
Internet.
Anyway, I became rather frustrated and called Mesha.  What
I had decided to do was spread a "true rumor" that did seem
to get "their attention".  And not just Mysapce's.
I called the Sonoma County sheriff and a captain answered
the phone. He said that the sheriff was unavailable. So I told
the captain that I had done a Google search that shows police
departments around the country were being busted by the feds
for steroid abuse.
I told him the search terms and I could sense the panic
in his voice.  I told him that the searches reveal Boston police
being busted by a federal grand jury investigation.  Dallas also
came up with the search and too many others to list.
Now I only went over the first ten results of the first search term
and twenty of the second.  When I got to the one about president
Bush talking about steroid abuse in a State of the Union address,
I stopped.  After all, Bush was talking about steroid abuse in
sports.  Maybe he should have been a bit more specific and
included law enforcement. You know .... the people that enforce
the laws against such things as drug abuse.
Not that I want to snitch out the feds and risk screwing up any
investigation that they might have.  I am not aware of Sonoma
County being investigated for steroid abuse.  Maybe it isn't. Maybe
it is ?  All I know is that I do not want to be charged with
"obstruction of justice", for bringing this to their attention.
After all, more often than not, "no good deed goes unpunished".
What I can point out is what other police departments that
have ignored the abuse of steroids like an ostrich, have found.
While they are so bent over with their heads in the sand,
the feds sneak up and give them an exam that nobody likes.
Regardless of sexual orientation.
As the prior mentioned search reveals, it was a Federal Grand
Jury investigation that busted the Boston police department for
steroid abuse.
Maybe if all of the San Francisco MUNI bus drivers that have
to pee in a bottle for random drug screening became aware of this.
They might be able to break the censorship and warn others of
the impeding steroid exams .... or a, the investigations that have
busted so many police departments around the country ?
One of my psychologists had told me that "the good and the
bad news it that I am not paranoid or delusional".
Now please excuse me .... I need to get back to editing
"Toxic Revelations" and my Myspace profile / blog.  It is
my intention to post this at my blog. If I can ......
Blessings,
